Arabians
General Overview
"As the oldest of all the light breeds and foundation stock of most, the Arabian is unique. The Arabian breed is different in that it does not exist as a result of selective breeding, as were other modern light breeds, where it was necessary to establish a registry prior to the development of the breed, but was a breed that had been recognized for thousands of years and had been maintained and cherished in its purity over those years as much as is humanly possible." .. AHA
NamingPer AHA rules.. " The only valid characters are capital letters A through Z, dash and space. Punctuation, apostrophes, and diacritical markings or symbols may not be used. Names may not contain more than 21 total characters or be composed of more than four parts."
TypesThere are several "types" of Arabians. Crabbet or CMK, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Eqyptian, Domestic (or American). Each type has a different structure, temperament and leading sires. Some breeders breed for the purity of the strain, and others breed animals across the board.

ColorsAHA records the following coat colors: bay, chestnut, grey, black, and roan. The purebred Arabian does not carry the dilute gene, there for they can not be any dilute color - buckskin, palomino, cremello or perlino. They also do not carry the dun modifier - sorry no duns or grullos. Although the model horse industry makes them over and over. Another interesting note is that even though the Arabian is registrable as roan, it is not a true roan. They are truly considered rabicanos. Which shows up as a mix of white hairs on the abdomen, in the maximum condition it usually in a striped pattern all the the way down to just white hairs at the base of their tail.
